Delhi-NCR Rain Updates: Heavy Rainfall Causes Waterlogging and Traffic Chaos in the Region
Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms wreaked havoc in Delhi-NCR as parts of the region were inundated with waterlogging and traffic chaos. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted more showers throughout the day, with thunderstorms and winds of 20-40 km/h expected to continue.
The heavy downpour led to significant waterlogging in various areas of the national capital, causing inconvenience to commuters. Traffic congestion and fallen trees added to the chaos, with the Delhi Traffic Police receiving numerous calls for assistance.
In a tragic incident, a portion of the roof collapsed at Terminal-1 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport, injuring at least six people. Flight departures from the terminal were suspended as authorities conducted a search operation to ensure no one else was trapped in the damaged vehicles.
The relentless rain also impacted other parts of Delhi-NCR, with reports of flooding in Gurugram and traffic disruptions on major roads. The city received 148.5mm of rainfall in just three hours, leading to one of the heaviest spells of rain in recent times.
As residents grappled with the aftermath of the deluge, BJP Councillor Ravinder Singh Negi made a symbolic protest by rowing an inflatable boat in a waterlogged area, highlighting the lack of preparedness by the Delhi government.
The situation remains grim as authorities work to clear the waterlogged areas and restore normalcy in the region. Stay tuned for more updates on the Delhi-NCR rain situation.
