Former President Donald Trump to Address Business Roundtable Meeting in Washington
Former President Donald Trump is set to attend a private meeting with one of the most powerful business lobbying groups in Washington in an effort to forge an alliance with major corporate leaders. The Business Roundtable’s CEO, Joshua Bolten, confirmed that Trump will be present at the group’s plenary meeting on June 13, while President Joe Biden, who was also invited, will be unable to attend due to overseas travel for a G7 meeting.
The meeting, which is off the record and closed to the press, will also feature White House chief of staff Jeff Zients in Biden’s absence. Trump’s team has confirmed his participation in a “moderated discussion” at the gathering, which is expected to draw all of the Business Roundtable’s over 200 CEOs.
This meeting comes on the heels of Trump’s recent conviction in New York for falsifying business records, a charge he continues to deny. Despite this legal setback, Trump has been actively seeking support and donations from business leaders for his potential campaign for president, emphasizing tax cuts and tariffs as key components of his platform.
While the Business Roundtable has not always seen eye-to-eye with Trump, particularly on issues like tariffs on Chinese products, some members have shown support for the former president. Blackstone CEO Steve Schwarzman, for example, recently endorsed Trump after initially seeking an alternative candidate in 2022.
The meeting with the Business Roundtable could be a crucial moment for Trump as he seeks to rally support from influential business figures. Despite past disagreements, Trump’s continued efforts to court wealthy business leaders demonstrate his determination to secure their backing for his political ambitions.
