NEET UG 2024 Row Live Updates: Centre Enforces “Anti-Paper Leak Law” Amid Controversy

The recent controversy surrounding the NEET-UG and UGC NET exams has sparked a wave of protests and discussions across India. Amid allegations of malpractices and question paper leaks, the Centre has taken a significant step by enforcing the “Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.” This law aims to prevent unfair practices in public examinations and common entrance tests conducted nationwide.

The Act defines public examinations as those administered by authorities designated by the central government, including various entities such as the Union Public Service Commission, Staff Selection Commission, Railway Recruitment Board, National Testing Agency, and more. It prohibits the premature disclosure of exam-related information and unauthorized individuals from causing disturbances at exam centers. The law also includes stringent punitive provisions, with a maximum jail term of 10 years and a fine of up to ₹1 crore for offenders.

The controversy surrounding the NEET results, with 67 students achieving a perfect score of 720, has raised concerns about potential irregularities. The Supreme Court declined to postpone the NEET-UG counseling process, which is set to begin on July 6. The National Testing Agency is preparing to conduct a retest for 1,563 candidates who were granted grace marks at six centers.

Various political leaders and student organizations have expressed their views on the issue, with protests and demands for accountability. The enforcement of the new law and the ongoing developments in the NEET-UG and UGC NET exams have captured the attention of the nation, highlighting the need for transparency and fairness in competitive examinations. Stay tuned for more updates on this evolving story.
