Presidential Campaign News Update: October 20, 2024

JD Vance criticizes Liz Cheney and Trump’s McDonald’s stunt

Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance made headlines today with his scathing remarks about Republican former Rep. Liz Cheney. Vance stated that Cheney is driven by “an obsessive hatred” towards those who contributed to her reelection loss in 2022, rather than a love for the country. He described her as a “resentful, petty, small person” during a press conference in Waukesha.

Vance also took the opportunity to praise former President Donald Trump as a symbol of the “big tent common sense team,” citing figures like Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Tulsi Gabbard, Nikki Haley, and Brian Kemp as examples. Meanwhile, Cheney, who has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, is set to campaign with her in suburban counties of Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan.

In a lighter moment, Vance commented on Trump’s brief stint as a fry attendant at McDonald’s, suggesting that Harris did not actually work there as she claims. He joked that Trump worked at the fast-food chain for 15 minutes, longer than Harris did. However, a campaign official confirmed that Harris did work at a McDonald’s in Alameda, California, during the summer of 1983 while she was a student at Howard University.

The exchange between Vance and Cheney, as well as the playful banter about Trump’s fast-food experience, added an interesting twist to the ongoing political campaign. Stay tuned for more updates on the vice presidential race.
