Papua New Guinea Announces 21-Man Squad for 2024 Pacific Championships
Papua New Guinea has announced their 21-man squad for the upcoming 2024 Pacific Championships, and it’s filled with current and former NRL players. The team, led by Jack de Belin, Dan Russell, Lachlan Lam, Robert Derby, and Jacob Alick-Wiencke, is aiming to win the 2024 Pacific Bowl title and advance to the Pacific Championships tournament.
However, the team will be missing key players Justin Olam, Zac Laybutt, and Nixon Putt due to injuries, which will force them to sit out the entire 2024 Pacific Championships.
In a surprising turn of events, Shaun Johnson has come out of retirement to replace the injured Jahrome Hughes in the New Zealand Kiwis squad for the Pacific Championships. Johnson, who retired from the NRL earlier this year, will bring his experience and leadership to the team.
The Kangaroos have also made changes to their squad, with Hudson Young replacing Liam Martin, who is out due to injury. Meanwhile, Tonga has named a strong squad for the tournament, including debutants like Paul Alamoti and Kulikefu Finefeuaki.
