Live Updates: Global IT Outage Impacts Microsoft and CrowdStrike

Global IT Outage Impacts Various Industries and Services

The global IT outage caused by system issues at cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike has had far-reaching impacts across various industries. From disruptions in Amazon warehouses to delays in Tesla’s manufacturing facilities, the outage has affected businesses worldwide.

FTC Chair Lina Khan connected the outage to competition and ‘fragile systems,’ highlighting the risks of concentrated market power. CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz apologized for the outage and reassured customers that the issue was not related to cybersecurity.

Railroad Union Pacific faced processing delays but has since returned to full capacity, while CommonSpirit Health is slowly bringing its computers back online. Epic Systems reported disruptions in accessing patient records, impacting healthcare organizations.

The outage also affected transportation, with United Airlines experiencing a ground stop and England’s National Health Service facing disruptions in managing patient records. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg expects transportation delays to normalize by Saturday.

Despite the widespread impact, the Federal Reserve confirmed that its critical systems are operating normally. As businesses work to recover from the outage, the incident serves as a reminder of the vulnerabilities in today’s interconnected digital infrastructure.
