Investigation into hazing initiated following the death of Dartmouth College student Won Jang

Tragic Death of Dartmouth Student Under Investigation for Possible Hazing Involvement

The tragic death of Dartmouth student Won Jang has left the community in shock as police investigate whether hazing may have played a role in the incident. Jang, a 20-year-old Ivy League student, was found dead in the Connecticut River on Sunday night after being reported missing the day before.

Authorities recovered Jang’s body 65 feet offshore after an extensive search that involved divers and a sonar team. While the cause of death remains undetermined, police have stated that foul play is not suspected at this time.

Hanover Police Chief Charles Dennis revealed that an anonymous report of hazing was received, indicating that alcohol and possible college hazing may have been involved in the incident. Jang had attended a social gathering at the river area before his disappearance.

In a statement to students, Dartmouth College dean Scott Brown offered condolences to those who knew Jang, describing him as an active member of the community who enthusiastically participated in extracurricular activities such as starting his own band. Jang was a biomedical engineering major and part of the class of 2026.

As the investigation into Jang’s death continues, the Dartmouth community mourns the loss of a promising young student and seeks support during this difficult time.
