Live Weather Updates: Severe Heatwave in Delhi, Possibility of Light Rains in NCR

Weather Updates: Heatwave Conditions Persist in North India

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted some relief for Delhi from the scorching heatwave conditions with light rains and thunderstorms expected on June 15. Despite the rain, the IMD has warned that heatwave conditions are likely to persist in Delhi and neighboring states for the next 4-5 days.

Delhi, along with Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Bihar, has been experiencing soaring temperatures, with severe heatwave warnings in many parts of these states. The maximum temperature in Buxar, Bihar, reached a staggering 47.2 degrees Celsius, nearly 9 degrees above the normal maximum for the season.

In Delhi, the Safdarjung Observatory recorded a high temperature of 44.8 degrees Celsius, which is almost 5 degrees above normal. The delayed onset of the southwest monsoon in northwestern states has prolonged the heatwave conditions in many regions.

Not only Delhi but also Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, and parts of West Bengal are facing heatwave conditions. The IMD has forecasted that the heatwave will persist in Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Bihar until June 17-18.

In Himachal Pradesh, Una recorded the maximum temperature at 43.6 degrees Celsius, while Shimla saw a high of 31 degrees Celsius, five notches above the season’s average.

Meanwhile, southern India is experiencing surplus rainfall during the period of June 1 to 12, providing some relief from the heatwave conditions in the north.
