Knox County welcomes new hydropower company as latest addition to business community

NuSTREEM Hydroelectric Equipment Manufacturer Relocates to Knoxville, Knox County

Hydropower Company Becomes Latest Business to Relocate to Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The business landscape in Knox County continues to evolve as NuSTREEM, a hydroelectric equipment manufacturer, officially sets up shop in the area. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Wednesday to mark the occasion.

NuSTREEM, which specializes in small turbine generators that produce clean and efficient energy from water, was previously based in Connecticut. The company’s assets were recently acquired by Mesa Associates, a management firm with a longstanding presence in Knoxville, and subsequently relocated to Knox County.

“We use our sister company Mesa Technologies to do the manufacturing and we do all the engineering part of it,” explained Tim Ramsey, Senior Vice President for Mesa Associates.

Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs expressed his enthusiasm for NuSTREEM’s decision to establish roots in the area, citing various factors that make Knox County an ideal location for businesses like NuSTREEM.

“We have TVA here and they do a lot of work with utilities around the country, I think they work with 12 out of the 15 largest utilities around the country, TVA being one of those,” Jacobs said. “Then you also have our proximity geographically to population centers across the east coast, as well as the innovation environment we have here and the technology environment that we have here.”

Jacobs also highlighted the potential economic benefits for local vendors who could supply parts needed for NuSTREEM’s turbines.

“They need vendors to buy parts, everything for the actual machinery of the parts that go into the turbine to powder coating, painting and doing all those sort of things,” he said. “What they would like to do here is have local vendors do that.”

Ramsey echoed Jacobs’ optimism for the future of NuSTREEM in Knoxville, emphasizing the company’s plans for growth and collaboration with local suppliers and vendors.

“We expect the business to grow. We have got room to expand, which we are excited about,” Ramsey said. “Then, we are going to use a lot of suppliers and vendors in this area to provide pieces and sub-assemblies.”

The arrival of NuSTREEM in Knoxville signifies a positive development for the local economy and reinforces the city’s reputation as a hub for innovation and business growth.
