Israeli Military Still Capable of Launching Invasion of Lebanon Despite Fatigue and Diminished Stockpiles
After nearly a year of intense conflict, the Israeli military is still prepared to launch a ground invasion of Lebanon, according to security experts. Despite facing fatigue among its ranks and diminished stockpiles, the Israeli military has shifted its focus from operations in Gaza to potential actions against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Brig. Gen. Yaacov Ayish, a former commander of the Israeli military’s operations directorate, stated, “Israel has sufficient resources to undertake a ground invasion. Nobody wants a war, but this is a war that has been imposed on us.”
The conflict began just under a year ago when Israel started fighting Hamas in Gaza, aiming to dismantle the militant group after brutal attacks on Israel. In recent weeks, Israel has intensified its operations against militants in the West Bank and is now considering a ground invasion of Lebanon to undermine Hezbollah.
Hezbollah has been launching rockets and drones into Israeli territory in solidarity with Hamas, leading to back-and-forth air attacks between the two sides. The Israeli military has significantly expanded its airstrikes on Hezbollah, targeting senior commanders and weapons stores.
While some experts express skepticism about a prolonged invasion without a clear end goal, Israeli military leaders have suggested they are prepared for a potential ground invasion. Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi, the Israeli military’s chief of staff, indicated that forces are gearing up for such an operation.
Despite the readiness for a ground invasion, diplomatic efforts may be necessary to ensure the safety of residents in northern Israel. Ofer Shelah, a former member of Israel’s Parliament, emphasized the importance of a diplomatic solution alongside military actions.
The situation remains tense as both sides continue to engage in conflict, with Hezbollah insisting on continuing attacks until a cease-fire is reached in Gaza. The Israeli military is determined to pressure Hezbollah into halting its attacks, even without a truce in Gaza.
As the possibility of a ground invasion looms, the region remains on edge, with the potential for further escalation in the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
