Narendra Modi Live Updates: Prime Minister Arrives in New York for UN Summit and Indian Community Interaction

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made headlines once again with his recent visit to New York to attend the Summit of the Future at the UN and interact with the Indian community. After wrapping up the Quad leaders summit on day one of his US visit, Modi is set to address a large community event in Long Island on Sunday and speak at the UN’s Summit of the Future on September 23 before returning to India.

During the Quad leaders summit, PM Modi, along with Japanese PM Fumio Kishida and Australian PM Anthony Albanese, pledged to collaborate with US President Joe Biden to initiate training for doctors in the Indo-Pacific regions to screen for cervical cancer. This initiative comes after President Biden emphasized the need for screening and vaccination of cervical cancer, which claims the lives of 150,000 women in the region.

In his jam-packed three-day visit, PM Modi conducted bilateral meetings with President Biden and PM Kishida, highlighting the importance of the Quad in promoting a rules-based international order and respect for sovereignty. Modi reiterated that the Quad is not against anyone but is here to assist, partner, and complement efforts for a free and open Indo-Pacific.

The Quad summit, also known as the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, addressed issues such as countering China and activities in the South China Sea. The leaders issued a joint statement, the Wilmington Declaration, reaffirming their commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific that is inclusive and resilient.

After the summit, PM Modi presented President Biden with a silver-antique train model and gifted a pashmina shawl to First Lady Jill Biden, showcasing the strong diplomatic ties between India and the US.

Overall, PM Modi’s visit to New York has been filled with important discussions and initiatives aimed at strengthening partnerships and promoting peace and prosperity in the region.
