Cathay Pacific Cancels 14 Flights at Changi Airport Due to Engine Component Failure

In a surprising turn of events, Cathay Pacific has grounded its entire Airbus A350 fleet for inspection after discovering a first-of-its-kind problem with a component of the model’s aircraft engine. This has resulted in the cancellation of 14 flights scheduled to depart from and arrive at Singapore’s Changi Airport on Sep. 3.

The affected flights were due to depart between 6am and 6pm and arrive between 5:30am and 8:35pm. All of the cancelled flights are Cathay Pacific flights, causing inconvenience to passengers traveling to various destinations.

The airline has stated that the inspections are “well underway” and are expected to be completed on the same day. Cathay Pacific’s director of engineering issued an apology for the inconvenience caused and expressed appreciation for customers’ patience and understanding.

The engine component failure was identified after a flight bound for Zurich had to return to Hong Kong following take-off on Sep. 2. This particular component had experienced a failure that was unprecedented on any A350 aircraft worldwide.

Spare parts have been secured and repair works have commenced, but a number of aircraft will be out of service for several days, impacting the airline’s operating schedule. Cathay Pacific has assured passengers that they will be kept informed of the latest updates and provided with alternative travel arrangements when necessary.

Updates on further cancellations will be provided as early as possible on Sep. 4. In the meantime, passengers are advised to check their flight status on the airline’s website for updates.

As the situation unfolds, Changi Airport Group has been contacted for more information. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story.
