Democratic Detractors Launch TV Ad Urging Biden to Step Aside
The pressure on President Biden to step aside is escalating as his Democratic detractors launch a TV ad campaign on one of his favorite shows. The ad, created by the group Pass the Torch, will air on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” and other daytime programming starting Monday.
The ad features Democratic voters from Pennsylvania, a key swing state, urging Biden to pass the torch and let a new nominee take the lead. The voters express gratitude for Biden’s past efforts but emphasize the need for new energy and hope in the party.
Aaron Regunberg, a member of Pass the Torch’s steering committee, stated, “We want to get this message directly to President Biden. We’ll be going up on his favorite programs and plan to stay up until we hear the announcement that he’s going to do the right thing and step aside.”
This tactic of using mass media advertising to reach a single powerful individual was pioneered during the previous administration with Donald Trump. Now, Biden’s critics are using the same strategy to try to influence his decision-making.
The ad will run in Washington, D.C., and the media market that includes Biden’s beach home in Rehoboth, Delaware, where he is currently isolating after testing positive for Covid-19. The goal is to push Biden to make a decision that will benefit the future of the Democratic Party.
