WBC President Takes Action Against Ryan Garcia for Racist Comments Online

Ryan Garcia Expelled from World Boxing Council for Racial Slurs and Social Media Behavior

The embattled boxer Ryan Garcia has been expelled from the World Boxing Council following a series of controversial incidents. World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman announced the decision on Thursday, citing Garcia’s use of racial slurs and disparaging remarks about George Floyd on social media.

In addition to his expulsion from the WBC, Garcia is serving a year-long suspension from the New York State Athletic Commission for testing positive for a banned substance prior to a fight in April. The victory he achieved in that fight has since been changed to a “no contest.”

Garcia’s mental fitness has also been called into question, with concerns raised about his erratic behavior online. Sulaiman stated that Garcia had declined multiple offers for help with mental health and substance abuse.

Furthermore, Garcia was recently arrested at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in Beverly Hills for felony vandalism, causing over $15,000 in damages. Promoter Oscar De La Hoya, founder of Golden Boy Promotions, condemned Garcia’s actions, stating that there is no room for hate or intolerance in his company.

De La Hoya expressed hope that Garcia will use his time away from the sport to address the issues he has publicly discussed and offered support in his journey towards earning back trust and respect. The future remains uncertain for Garcia as he faces the consequences of his actions.
