SeaWorld San Antonio Welcomes Another Pacific White-Sided Dolphin Calf in Ongoing Baby Boom

SAN ANTONIO – The baby boom at SeaWorld San Antonio continues with the recent birth of a Pacific white-sided dolphin calf, the marine park announced on Monday. The 17-year-old dolphin named Ohana gave birth to a baby female, estimated to be 19 inches long and 21 pounds.

This new addition follows the recent births of a beluga whale and another Pacific white-sided dolphin in late June. The marine park’s team of animal care specialists and veterinary staff have been closely monitoring the new calves and their mothers.

Katie Kolodziej, curator of zoological operations at SeaWorld San Antonio, expressed excitement about the new arrivals, stating, “Our team has been waiting on this moment for months and it’s finally here. With three new babies now in our habitat, the team is looking forward to providing the best possible care and enrichment for the calves and their mothers.”

The calf instinctually swam to the surface of the water for its first breath of air upon birth and has been swimming alongside its mother. Around-the-clock observations will continue for at least another month to ensure the well-being of the calves.

Guests visiting the marine park can catch a glimpse of the new additions at various times throughout the day and receive updates on their progress from zoological staff during special educational chats. The recent baby boom at SeaWorld San Antonio began earlier this summer with the arrival of a harbor seal, a California sea lion, and an endangered radiated tortoise, all of which are reportedly in good health.

With a total of 10 beluga whales and nine Pacific white-sided dolphins now at the park, visitors can witness the growing pod and enjoy the sight of the adorable new calves.
