Guam National Player Samantha Kenney’s Summer of Football and Ministry Internship in Ecuador

Guam National Player Samantha Kenney Makes Impact On and Off the Pitch

Guam national player Samantha Kenney is not your average footballer. In addition to her skills on the pitch, Kenney also dedicates her time to serving her community and making a difference in the lives of others.

This summer, Kenney embarked on a ministry internship with Cumbre Alta, a football club in Ecuador, that took her to five U.S. cities and Quito, Ecuador, within two months. Through this experience, Kenney was able to use her passion for football to connect with marginalized communities and make a positive impact.

Kenney’s journey began with an internship called Urban Impact in Pittsburgh, which led her to Cumbre Alta in Quito. From there, she traveled back to the U.S. with the club to participate in football camps for lower socioeconomic Hispanic communities in southern states. The experience was transformative for Kenney, who saw firsthand the power of football to bring people together and create positive change.

Back in Quito, Kenney continued her work with the club’s women’s team, academy program, and business pursuits. Despite the challenges of being in a new location every week and not speaking fluent Spanish, Kenney thrived in the environment and grew both personally and professionally.

Kenney’s commitment to serving her community extends beyond her time with Cumbre Alta. As a long-time player in Guam’s National Program, Kenney has represented her country on the international stage and has been a role model for young players in Guam. Her dedication to using her talents to make a difference has earned her recognition as a Youth Social Responsibility Ambassador and Council member, as well as the opportunity to present at Generation Amazing’s online workshop.

Off the pitch, Kenney is a standout player for Gordon College in Massachusetts, where she currently plays for the Fighting Scots. Her achievements both on and off the field have made her a respected figure in the football community and a source of inspiration for aspiring athletes.

As Kenney continues to make her mark in the world of football, her passion for serving others and making a difference will undoubtedly continue to drive her success both on and off the pitch.
