DNC Launches New Ad Highlighting David Duke’s Endorsement of Jill Stein
The Democratic National Committee is taking aim at third-party candidate Jill Stein in a new ad campaign, following former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke’s recent endorsement of her.
The ad, titled “Company They Keep,” is set to air in key battleground states like Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, as well as on cable channels nationwide. The DNC is warning voters that Stein could once again play the role of a “spoiler candidate,” as she did in the 2016 election by drawing votes away from Hillary Clinton.
Duke’s endorsement of Stein last week sparked controversy, with the former Klan leader stating that he was considering what was “good for white people, Europeans.” Stein’s campaign manager quickly distanced the candidate from Duke, stating they were “very, very not interested” in his endorsement.
The ad highlights Stein’s connections to Duke and Russian President Vladimir Putin, suggesting that a vote for Stein is a vote for Trump. The DNC also points to a Senate Intelligence Committee report that found Russian social media efforts in support of Stein during the 2016 election.
DNC senior adviser Mary Beth Cahill issued a statement warning voters not to be “played for a fool” by supporting Stein, Duke, and Putin, as they all share the goal of defeating Vice President Harris and putting Trump back in the White House.
Stein has previously embraced the idea that she played a role in Trump’s victory in 2016, while Trump himself has expressed admiration for her. The DNC’s ad campaign signals a strategic effort to prevent history from repeating itself in the upcoming election.
