Updates on Cannabis Business Approvals and Delays on Guam
The Cannabis Control Board on Guam has approved another responsible official for cannabis-related business activity, bringing the total number of approved applications to 15. Charles John Gumataotao Cruz, who plans to operate under the name Bicultural Diversity LLC, received unanimous approval for his identification card.
However, despite the progress in approving responsible officials, there has been no movement on outstanding applications for a cannabis cultivator and testing lab. Two businesses are currently working on obtaining a cannabis business license, but no business has advanced past the first step.
One potential testing lab, Blue Wave Inc., may be pending final clearance on their location before they can open for business. Delays in opening a testing lab have been cited as a potential roadblock for the cannabis industry on Guam, as regulations require products to be tested before they can be sold.
In response to the delays, Sen. Will Parkinson has introduced legislation to waive the testing requirement until a lab is operational. The bill made it to the legislative session agenda in May but was not discussed. The future of the cannabis industry on Guam remains uncertain as businesses await approval to move forward with their operations.
