Cathay Pacific passengers in Hong Kong to enjoy 22% reduction in fuel fee for most ticket purchases

Cathay Pacific Airways to Reduce Fuel Surcharges for Passengers in Hong Kong

Cathay Pacific Airways passengers in Hong Kong can look forward to saving more on their flights starting next month, as the airline announced a 22 per cent reduction in fuel surcharges for most tickets issued in the city.

Effective from July 1, the one-way fuel surcharge for long-haul flights between Hong Kong and destinations such as Australia, Europe, and the United States will be decreased from HK$923 to HK$719. Similarly, the fees for flights to India, Bangladesh, and other short-haul destinations will also see a significant drop.

The adjustments were made in response to fluctuating fuel prices, with Brent crude oil prices hovering near the US$80 mark in recent weeks. This marks the second time this year that Cathay Pacific has revised its fuel surcharge rates, with the last update in January.

While Cathay’s budget airline, HK Express, has yet to announce its surcharge rates for July, other airlines in the region like Hong Kong Airlines and Greater Bay Area Airlines are also expected to adjust their fees accordingly.

The city of Hong Kong lifted regulations on passenger fuel surcharges for flights departing from the city in 2018, after a ban on the fee for more than two years. The Civil Aviation Department also plans to deregulate cargo fuel surcharges from January next year.

Overall, the reduction in fuel surcharges by Cathay Pacific is welcome news for passengers looking to save on their travel expenses in the coming months.
