UN Security Council Fails to Secure Ceasefire in Gaza – Palestine’s Ambassador Slams Council

The Palestinian envoy at the United Nations has criticized the Security Council for failing to secure a ceasefire and end Israel’s attacks on Gaza. In a special session on the humanitarian response in Gaza, Riyad Mansour expressed disappointment in the council’s inability to alleviate the suffering of Palestinians. He emphasized the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire to stop Israel’s genocidal war on the Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, at the opening of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, the Palestinian Olympic team made a symbolic entry on a boat in the River Seine. Pro-Palestine activists have called for Israel to be banned from the Olympics, citing double standards in allowing Israel to participate while barring Russia.

In Washington, a briefing by UNRWA is taking place at the UN Security Council to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The meeting was called by Russia, China, and Algeria following Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech to the US Congress. UNRWA representatives highlighted the dire situation in Gaza, including the challenges faced by the displaced population in meeting their basic needs.
