Clarification on VA Travel Policy for Veterans Living on Guam

Title: VA Clarifies Travel Policy for Guam Veterans Seeking Medical Care

In a recent response letter to Del. James Moylan, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs reiterated its commitment to covering and paying for the travel costs of veterans living on Guam who need medical services not available on the island, CNMI, or Hawaii.

According to Patricia Ross, assistant secretary for congressional and legislative affairs with the VA, veterans will be referred to the nearest facility capable of providing the necessary level of care. The VA Pacific Islands Health Care System (VAPIHCS) BT Office will coordinate and pay for the travel to the designated facility.

Moylan had sought clarification on the VA’s travel policy for Guam veterans, highlighting the disparity in coverage if a veteran needed treatment beyond Hawaii. The VA’s response letter addressed this concern, ensuring that veterans would not have to pay for care if specific services were not available in Hawaii.

Moylan expressed appreciation for the VA’s timely response and stated that his office would share this information with veteran groups to alleviate any confusion. He also emphasized the importance of enhancing veterans’ care in Guam to reduce the need for off-island procedures.

Overall, the VA’s clarification on travel policy for Guam veterans seeking medical care aims to ensure equitable access to necessary services and support for those who have served our country.
